I was a little excited today when Ministry of Sound’s latest compilation, “Adventures in Dubstep and Beyond” landed on my doorstep, having bought it from HMV on Monday.
However, I have to say, that having listened to it, I’m a little disappointed. I’m mad for dubstep and drum & bass as well as beats which are hard, bass-heavy and sometimes a little freaky, so from the title I was expecting some real audio pleasure. Instead the first CD is full of “funky” and “futuristic” tracks which don’t even go anywhere near a dubstep tweak; the second CD (the “deep, dark and dirty” disc) is much better and is actually mostly excellent and ticks all the boxes in terms of my warped requirements, but again there’s not much there that I’d term dubstep.
Anyway, all I’m saying is just be careful if you’re buying this as a dubstep album as I think you’ll be disappointed too. It’s still a good album, just not what I was expecting
(and had there been a tracklisting or audio samples for me to listen to online then I would probably not have bought it)
