Noisia has announced that they will be launching their new album “Split the Atom” (which is out on the April 5th) at London’s Fabric on the 9th Apil. They’ll be taking over room 2 and will be supported by Phace, Rockwell, and Andy C.

As for the album, it’s MASSIVE! It opens with their recent release  “Machine Gun”, moves on to an awesome drum n bass track (“My World”) which is reminscent of a Roni Size track and goes from strength to strenght from there. Full of deep beats, grungy tweaks and dark basslines this album did not disappoint. There’s a really tasty collaboration with Foreign Beggars too. Overall the album is a mix of techno/electro tracks and drum n bass, actually typically Noisia sounding :)

And if a new album and launch party is not enough, they also premiered their Essential Mix for Radio One (click the link for the tracklisting); they’ve launched an online video game

Wow, they’ve been busy, cus that’s not all, they’ve relaunched their website and set up an online store.

But that’s enough of that – buy the album it is just awesome, probably one of the best albums I’ve had the pleasure of listening to this year!

I reported on the release of Noisia’s “Machine Gun” back in Feb.

Looks like the single from the album “Split the Atom” is out on Monday (8th March) and to celebrate Noisia are giving away a free download of an Amon Tobin remix of the track.

The remix has the typical Amon Tobin sound adding “plinkle-plonkle” to a typically hard and raw track. Can’t say it’s a favourite of mine – but hey it is free after all :)

But that’s not all. In addition to the release of the single, Noisia will be releasing four Drum & Bass tracks from the album on a Vision Recordings EP and four non-Drum & Bass tracks on a Division Recordings EP.  Released on vinyl on 5th April.

Tracklist for Vision Recordings EP:

A. Shellshock ft. Foreign Beggars
B. Sunhammer ft. Amon Tobin
C. Thursday
D. Hand Gestures ft. Joe Seven

Tracklist for Division Recordings EP:

A. Split the Atom
B. Alpha Centauri
C. Machine Gun
D. Red Heat

You can always expect something different from Noisia, and provided it’s raw and hard sounding then that pleases me. So, here we have the first single from the forthcoming debut LP “Split the Atom”.

It’s not a drum and bass massive that you might expect given Noisia’s other works (Fabric compilation, collaboration with Foreign Beggars and remixes of the likes of Moby and the Prodigy), but instead a raw techno belter. The Original Mix is thumping in its beats (bit like a machine gun I guess).

Spor adds a pounding underlying drum and bass soundtrack to the track, whilst the 16 Bit Remix is much slower and the beats dirtier – the machine gun sound and feel of the track really comes through. But the bizarest version is the Amon Tobin which is minimalistic in places, cutting the track right down, and then hitting you with the raw grinding bass.

For me the Spor Remix is probably the best.

I can’t wait for the album as I know it’s going to be awesome. I think the problem Noisia has with this track is that fans will buy it just because it is Noisia or because it gets support from the likes of Andy C and Chase & Status, but I don’t think it has the pop-tastic melodies needed to get mainstream support.

I love “Gash” by Foreign Beggars and I’m a big fan of Noisia, so to receive a promo of a Foreign Beggars tune produced by Noisia was just too much. And the track doesn’t disappoint.

Featuring two tracks there’s a clear Noisia influence in both tracks, with Noisia’s twisted basslines and beats, and to top that there’s a very tasty drum and bass mix. And these dark beats go well with the Beggar’s rap – this has to be the best hip hop tunage I’ve heard in a while.

Can’t wait for their debut album “United Colours of Beggatron”. Bring it on!
