Plan B has a new album “iLL Manors” coming out on May 7th 2012 on Atlantic Records. Talking about the album, Plan B said “You could call iLL Manors bass-line, soul, hip-hop. The album has the lyrical depth of my first record but the musical composition is light years ahead as it’s informed by everything I’ve learnt in the last five years – writing, producing and playing with a live band. I feel I’m better than I’ve ever been.”
And as if that’s not enough for Plan B fans, a film written and directed by Plan B, also called “Ill Manors” will be released on May 4th 2012. And there’s some tour dates coming up in June:
Whilst I’m not a big fan of his soul sound, nothing personal, not into that kind of music, I respect his talent, but what I love most about Plan B, is the remixes he releases.
For “Love Goes Down” there’s Doctor P and Danny Byrd remixes. Whilst Mr Byrd’s reworking is a typical Danny Byrd sound, the Doctor P is off the scale. It starts of as though you’re about to hear a hardhouse track and then breaks into an excellent dubier drum & bass version with the beats and dark synths interlaced perfectly with Plan B’s vocals.
I’ll confess up front that I’m not a big fan of Plan B‘s music – well actually that’s not strictly true. He’s got a fantastic voice, but I just don’t like the music in his tracks – a little to jazzy for my liking. But, what I do like about Plan B is that he’s not afraid to get some of the best drum & bass and dubstep producers to remix his tracks.
Case in point, “Recluse” which was released last week on Atlantic Records. On remix duties: Netskyand Nero. The Netsky version is is a fast D&B version with a nice deep underlying bass. The Nero version is more dubstep, but still with a fast beat and a lovely dark bass. Two perfect remixes that complement Plan B’s distinctive vocals perfectly.
So I urge you, seek out the remixes of Plan B’s tracks and you won’t be disappointed. Other’s to look out for: No Good – Chase & Status & Beni G, Remix,She Said – 16bit version and the Breakage Remix of Prayin.

I’m missing the lack of Chase & Status genius at the moment, both their drum and bass and dubstep production is the best around, so I was chuffed to stumble across their remix collaboration with Beni G on Plan B’s “No Good”.
Featuring hard beats, Prodigy vocal samples as well as agressive vocals from Plan B, this is an awesome drum & bass track, just don’t know how I’ve missed it till now.
