This week Radio 1 announced some interesting changes to its dance programming.

As well as a new “Residency” show, Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction will also be getting their own shows from April 2012.

Friday night will continue to be the weekly destination for Dance, with Skream & Benga added to the 11pm – 1am slot (following on from Annie Mac and Pete Tong who keep their usual slots).

Benga said: “This is a massive honour and we’re going to make the show really special. I’m so excited to get started and everyone is going to have a lovely time on Fridays!”

Toddla T will be broadcasting his very own permanent show on Friday mornings (2am – 4am).

The new “Residency” show will be Thursday (midnight to 2am) will be presented by an impressive roster of DJ’s including Heidi, Chuckie and Kutski on a weekly rotation. The existing “In New DJ’s We Trust”, will continue every Thursday evening (9pm-10pm) and early next year a brand new line up of four cutting edge DJ’s will be revealed.

In addition to the changes to the dance music line up, Charlie Sloth, who currently presents a Hip-Hop show on 1Xtra will be fronting his own show on Radio 1 on Tuesday’s (2am – 4am) and Friction* will be joining the station to host his own Drum and Bass show on Mondays (2am – 4am).

These changes mean that Judge Jules, Gilles Peterson, Kissy Sell Out, Fabio & Grooverider will be leaving Radio 1 next year. The Essential Mix will move from Saturdays (3.00am – 5.00am) to Saturday (1.00am – 3.00am) and Annie Nightingale moves from Fridays (2.00am – 4.00am) to Saturdays (3.00-5.00am)

Annie Mac announced last night that Swedish House Mafia will present a very special one off takeover of Pete Tongs Show on Friday 16th September between 9pm-11pm.

The trio will play a mixture of music that has inspired them along with the hottest new dance tracks around, as well as competing in a special sound clash between all members of the band.

On April 8th, Radio 1 will celebrate two decades of Pete Tong’s Radio 1 dance show, with a full 12 hours of programming which will include the top 20 dance tracks of the last 20 years, a three hour recorded session hosted by Pete (which will include music from Groove Armada, Chase & Status, to name just a few) as well as studio take-over from The Chemical Brothers.

There will also be a special Pete Tong Essential Mix, and the 12 hours will be rounded off with an “A-Z of Pete Tong” hosted by Rob Da Bank

Annie Mac has announced that she will co-host her Friday 17th December show with Pete Tong and will be broadcasting live from the Braehead Arena, Glasgow as part of Deadmau5′s UK Tour.

The two presenters are set to provide listeners with all the back stage gossip in the lead up to a live Deadmau5 performance from the main stage arena.

At 11.00pm they station will head to the Deadmau5 After Party at the 02 Academy in Glasgow to continue their usual dance marathon right through until 4:00am on Saturday 18th with a slew of sets from some of the hottest names on the scene.
