Tag Archives: Rusko

After much speculation there is now confirmation that Cypress X Rusko will be releasing an EP in April. This is a collaboration between hip hop legends Cypress Hill and dubstep pioneer Rusko.

This is very exciting news, particularly as the powerful rap of the Hill will meld perfectly with the raw electronic beats and bass of Rusko’s music.

But if that wasn’t exciting enough, we can get a taster of what’s to come, in the form of a track “Roll It, Light It” which is available as a free download

I saw Rusko play a live set at last years Camp Bestival and have to say that I was a little disappointed. He wasn’t DJing but actually playing his own tracks – whilst Cockney Thug remains one of my all time favourite tracks, his tracks didn’t seem that good.

However, that didn’t stop me buying his album OMG! And whilst there’s a number of tracks on the album that are well played (and feature on many dubstep collections) there’s a lot of new material on the album. It kicks off with the excellent Wooboost (I’d recommend the Boregore remix) which is followed by a collection of varying style tracks. Some tracks sound more pop than dubstep (e.g. Feel So Real), others have a UK Garage feel to them, some have old school dubstep vibes.

Overall, the album is pretty bloody good and demonstrates Rusko’s versatility at making music. Nice one! But, if you want hardcore dubstep tracks that are well warped and twisted, this album probably isn’t for you – you’re best sticking to dubstep compilations for those.
